Time for Take Off

I'm standing at the edge of a runway that smells like a racetrack. A mix of dirt and excrement co-linger in the air. A nauseating aroma to others, it has no effect on me. They are my familiar place in the waiting. They are so normal to me I forgot I was paralyzed in their grips. I became comfortable, nay, cozy in their pungent embraces.

Then it happened. The new year changed my atmosphere. It shifted my environment. The new life it brought stretches out in front of me wrapped in sunny skies. Blue and yellow that lack clouds or obstructions. As the warmth penetrates my skin to heat my muscles, anticipation lights a fire. My frozen psyche floods with new energy. Hope energy and I wanna run.

I see the brown, feathered wings extended just steps in front of me. Fixed with athletic legs capped off with talons as strong as a vice grip. Bidding me to step up into the future. This is it. I know because I've done the waiting. I stood on my own two legs as long as I could. It's time for a supernatural move. I'm going for it.

Waiting over. New strong legs standing by. Wings spread waiting for me to slip my arms in. I take the first wobbly step and then another. I take in a long confident breath, close my eyes, and fix my arms into the wings. I lift my weak legs one at a time and slide them into the new ones. I'm mounting up. It's time for take off.
