Looking Like a Wildflower

Tonight was a beautiful evening to sit on the back porch. The April weather was in full swing with a sunny sky and my yard was full of activity. A curious wild kitty creeping on the top of my fence, squirrels leaping from tree to tree, and birds clustering together on a branch with the daily gossip.

As I took it all in, a confused wildflower immersed itself into my view. Long green leaves were folded over like the legs of a daddy long legs spider. I've seen that plant mushed flush to the dirt collapsed by rainwater one day and reaching out every direction the next day.

I bought this silly bulb at a wildflower festival in a small town for a dollar and it is one of the greatest investments I've ever made! In fact, I'm going to the yearly festival next weekend for another smart buy.

The longevity of this plant is astounding under the hand of a green-thumbed challenged owner. I completely ignore it on a daily basis and yet it remains. That realization connected with my current vibe. Life is relentless. It's good, it's bad, it's non-committal, it's encompassing, and unpredictable and I stand through all of it. Divorce, single momhood, break ups, friend loss, and empty nesting have tried to press me down but I refuse to stay down. This dollar wildflower always springs back up and laps life up again. And so do I. I think we're perfect for each other.
