Poetry Reading: Saying Goodbye

I received the unfortunate news yesterday that a kind co-worker passed away. As I drove back to Tennessee in awe of the spring beauty reaching from Indiana on down, I wrote a poem for him.

I didn't know him that well, but he seemed a kind soul. His life had mirrored mine as a divorced single parent, so we connected right away. This one's for you.

I hate that you're not seeing this day.

A plush field of yellow dandelions.

Pink buds peeking off of tree limbs.

A cardinal flapping in grandeur across the yard.

A helicopter rain underneath a Maple Tree.

Green grass stretching for miles and miles.

Spring colors that are outshining Autumn's glory.

Blue sky perfectly open going everywhere.

Maybe you are seeing it.

And then again, maybe it was all for you.

Rest in peace M.
