Empty Nesting Solo - Boot Camp Begins

The day came and I couldn't stop it. My first day without seeing my son come home for real. Knowing he started his new life and nothing will be the same again. It was always coming. I'm glad he's happy, that makes me happy. I'm proud of him for chasing another dream. He's doing something he will always be proud of that will bring many future provisions for him.

But it still hurts like H-E-double-hockey-sticks! Gen Xer's will know what that means. Before he left, I told him I would go into my own boot camp because he inspired me and I meant it. I would read the whole Bible again, this time within 2 months. Since yesterday, I've read 50 chapters and finished the first book, Genesis. Oh yeah, I'm on my way.

Physically, I told him I would get shaped up for his boot camp graduation. For a visual goal, I hung up a pair of white jeans in front of him promising to wear them to his graduation. That means I have to shed about 15 pounds in 8 weeks. I have to keep my word. So, here we go.

His crazy new life started about an hour ago. He's been traveling since yesterday and the yelling started on the ride from the airport this evening. I know they locked up his phone and I don't know when we will talk again. But it's going to be okay. I will put my energy into keeping my word and showing up in white jeans!

Last leg of his all day airplane journey.
